Case Presentation:
A 35-year-old female presented with a noticeable anterior neck swelling. She was referred to the Smart Surgical Team for a comprehensive thyroid evaluation. The patient had no significant past medical or surgical history.
Laboratory Findings:
The laboratory tests revealed the following parameters, all within normal ranges:
TSH: 2.13 µIU/ml (Normal)
Free T4 (FT4): 13.92 pmol/L (Normal)
Triiodothyronine (T3): 1.07 ng/ml (Normal)
ATPO (Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody): 12.46 IU/ml (Normal)
Imaging:
Neck ultrasound revealed that the thyroid gland was not in its normal position. Instead, ectopic thyroid tissue measuring 41 × 27 mm was identified in the midline of the neck, near the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage. An embedded TR2 nodule measuring 26 × 16 mm was detected within the ectopic tissue. No other abnormalities were observed.
Treatment Strategy:
Given the findings, the patient was started on iodine supplementation and has been placed under regular follow-up care to monitor her condition.
