Overview
While pediatric thyroid nodules are relatively uncommon, they carry a significantly higher risk of malignancy compared to adults, with our cohort demonstrating a 31.6% malignancy rate—all diagnosed as Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC).
Key findings
Our paper explores clinical presentations, where 58.3% of patients presented with anterior neck swelling, as well as the success of total thyroidectomy as the definitive treatment. Ultimately, it underscores how institutional expertise and a high annual surgical volume are vital to achieving zero major postoperative complications, such as permanent vocal cord paralysis or hypocalcemia, in complex pediatric cases.
